Yesterday was a great day outside. We went to the park and spent time playing volleyball, Frisbee golf and feeding the ducks. I even managed to squeeze in a run in the morning. It was a great warm December day in the mountains. We were all wearing shorts and short sleeves in December, just after Christmas. (Did I mention in the mountains). Record breaking weather for this time of year and we made the most of it with lots of outside time.
Today, however, we are looking at a very rainy, cooler temperature kind of day! Cooped up inside with 14 people. Family! We are having our Christmas celebration with my husband’s side of the family. There is always something to do or somewhere to go when the weather is nice but when the rain comes…we are stuck inside. There are lots of placed in the house for people to cozy up with a good book or hang out and chat. So even though there are 14 of us, we don’t have to thumb wrestling for seats. There is plenty of room for everyone. (There was definitely some wrestling going on though. Kept the boys occupied, with a Nerf gun battle thrown in every once in a while.)
Game time! When the weather outside is frightful…we break out the board games. Everyone is very competitive, including me. No one likes to lose, but there can be only one winner. My nephews are almost professional level board game players, if there even is such a thing. Rarely do I come away with a win. The kids and I opted for a simpler, one rule game while the bigger guys played a game with so many rules I couldn’t keep up. After a few rounds of the simpler game, we took a break and the kids found other ways to occupy themselves.
I like a good rainy day, every once in a while, to keep you indoors. It was great napping weather too. I tried it out for myself! Not sure how long I slept but it was a delight to be curled up with my baby girl on the couch for a few minutes of shut eye. She’s not a baby anymore but I tell her she will always be my baby. It’s what my Mom still tells me.
After games and a good nap, we decided a movie was in order for the evening. Some went to Star Wars, while I had the pleasure of going to see The Road Chip (Chipmunks movie). I feel I’m telling on myself but I was quite entertained by the chipmunks. A childlike sense of humor keeps me young. Besides it’s good to be entertained by the smaller things in life, right? Funny is everywhere, you just have to willing to look for it, even in a chipmunk movie.
All around a great day to spend with family, full of fun! It’s always good to have a day inside just to be in the presence of each other, keeping ourselves entertained and laughing. I’m blessed with a great loving family of in-laws! Thank you for letting me be a part of your family!
